Pinellas Park Times, 2001

Influenced by my mother’s great interest and love for horses I started my equestrian journey at a very young age. As a member of a local riding club, my unbridled enthusiasm and daily dedication gave me the opportunity to ride and gain experience with many different types of horses belonging to members. Eventually, I competed with their mounts in national jumping shows.

In 1997, my family purchased “Isenbrant, ”a five-year-old with jumping experience from the “El Rasillo” herd. His incredible movement led us to discover the discipline of dressage together.

In 2000, Isenbrant and I debuted in our first Spanish Championship in the junior category. Winning 4th place in this event allowed us to participate in the European Championship which took place in Lipiza (Slovenia).

That same year I was at the “Catherson Stud Farm” riding club, which was directed by English Olympic rider Jennie Loriston-Clarke. Under her supervision I was able to ride “Dutch Gold”, a British champion and participant of various Olympic games.

In 2001, during an international championship in Barcelona, Isenbrant and I received first place and once more, were launched to the European Championship, this time hosted in Germany. There, we received the consolation price, placing 5th. Soon after that, my father’s company transferred him to Mexico and an opportunity that I could not refuse came up in the United States. Our horse Isenbrant would travel to Mexico along with my mother, and I would start a new life in Tampa Florida, focusing on earning a business degree while training horses and giving dressage lessons.

After this phase of my life, I returned to Spain, but not without stopping in Mexico to reunite with my beloved “Isi”.  Our sudden return to Spain in 2002 placed us as Reserve Champions of the “Spanish Championship” in the young rider category. My business degree studies, the training and competition of warm blood and Pure Spanish Breed horses and the dressage lessons I imparted to my students in Spain, Switzerland and U.S became my life for the following 4 years.

The year 2003 I achieved the second place at the Spanish Championship in the young rider category in Barcelona, also obtaining the gold medal for the Spanish team, which once again gave me the opportunity to join the coveted European Championship.

In 2004, a fifth place at an International show hosted in Dehesa de Monte Medio, Cadiz, placed us among the best of the Spanish participants. This allowed us to qualify for the European Championship hosted in Denmark during the month of July, but an unfortunate injury prevented me from competing.

The year 2005 was my transition from junior to adult level, in other words: Grand Prix. Always ranking within the top six at National Shows Isenbrant and I qualified for the “Absolute Spanish Championship” in Oviedo (September 2006). However due to personal reasons I had to fly immediately to Houston, Texas, again forcing me to miss the competition.

Now, after reuniting with my horse Isenbrant and dog Hippos, I have been competing in Grand Prix, often ranking at the top with scores consistently above 67%. In addition I continue to give lessons and train horses, some of them Pure Spanish Breed.

Isenbrant: 11 years we have danced together, from the lower levels all the way to Grand Prix, always receiving wise advice from my mother Isabel Delgado, trainers like Brigitte Van der Hagen or Ivon Viser as well as some periodic clinics, having fun every day, and looking toward a future that will lead us first and foremost, to enjoy the ride together.
